Making a difference Print E-mail
Our generation, the leaders of tomorrow, have some of the most exciting opportunities in history available to us. We are afforded luxuries that make life more enjoyable and connect us to citizens of the global community from around the world. With this comes the awareness that there is an unfortunate disparity between how an average North American youth grows up and their African or South Asian counterpart.

Thankfully, we are also in an age where our ability to bridge this divide is becoming easier and easier. Young people from around the world are 'making a difference' and these actions are leaving a lasting mark on the world, providing everyone involved with a renewed respect for those people that would otherwise be separated from us by both culture and misunderstanding. There is a stark contrast between asking a question and looking for its answer, and I believe that this website will allow the latter to be found, by involving people in a quest for true results on the ground in places that need it the most.

Our generation is certain to inherit a world that is burdened by war, famine, and political strife. But if those who can give of themselves do, we might find ourselves part of the progression to a happier world, and that progress will build momentum for future generations. The need has never been greater, nor the ability to fulfill that need stronger, than it is today. It is time to make a difference.

So how can we make a difference?

On June 15th, 2007, I will be boarding a plane to Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, from where I will travel to Bagamoyo to volunteer in an orphanage for 6 weeks. This placement was made possible through Cross Cultural Solutions (www.crossculturalsolutions.org). After completing this volunteer experience, I move onto Mount Kilimanjaro where I will be doing a charity climb in benefit of the Children's Hunger Fund (www.childrenshungerfund.org). I will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro through one of the most professional and experienced guides... Tusker Trails (www.tusker.com). My initial goal is to raise $50,000 for the Children's Hunger Fund to assist them in all of the positive work they do for the most vulnerable segments of impoverished societies. I promise that every penny donated will go directly to CHF to make a difference in the world today.

Sincerely,
Jonathan Conlin

Stay tuned as we make this goal a reality.
