Who Am I? Print E-mail

Jonathan ConlinThe road to the creation of this website was filled with challenges, but I believe that the obstacles I have had to overcome have helped me in focusing my energy in what I wanted to accomplish. After graduating from high school at Vancouver College in Vancouver, BC, Canada, I was fortunate enough to accept a scholarship to play football for Washington State University. In my third year, multiple major surgeries forced me to retire from football and I was left with a void that forced me to question what I was doing and how I wanted to use my time and energy. Graduating from WSU in political science, I was exposed to the need for humanitarian actions in the less fortunate parts of the world. I will be volunteering in an orphanage in Bagamoyo, Tanzania for six weeks starting in June of 2007 and will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro starting in late July with the goal of raising $50,000 for the Children’s Hunger Fund. Not only am I confident the money raised will be maximized by CHF given their excellent record, but on a larger scale I hope that my actions will inspire others who are in a similar position to myself and have the desire to make a difference; but until now did not know if they could accomplish something like this on such a large scale. None of this could be made possible without the tireless support of my family, especially my parents, Brian and Monica, who have been instrumental in the creation of the site. Also, special thanks to Swivel (www.swivel.net) for their online expertise, Tusker Trail (www.tusker.com) for their professionalism in organizing the climb, Cross Cultural Solutions (www.crossculturalsolutions.org) for allowing me the opportunity to work amongst the people of Tanzania, and Children’s Hunger Fund (www.childrenshungerfund.org) for giving me the confidence that my efforts to raise money will see tangible results that can be easily seen and will create future momentum for similar initiatives.
