The End of the Chapter But Not the Book |

Friday September 7, 2007 Although the fundraiser is not over, getting home safely and having time to reflect has provided me with the opportunity to appreciate how lucky I am to have been able to experience the rich culture of East Africa and understand on a personal level their daily struggles. Putting a human face on the fundraiser has motivated me to make the final push to $50,000. Reaching $40,000 is a huge accomplishment and provides me with a feeling of satisfaction because I am able to visualize all the smiling faces of the children that will receive the support that the donations provide. Still, I am also returned to the moment I sat in the local hospital when I had been diagnosed with malaria, sitting beside people in their last days of life from diseases such as AIDS and Yellow Fever. This morbid recollection always refocuses me and makes me realize that more can always be done. To all those that donated or provided support in any way, know that your financial affirmation is functionally compounded by the investment you have made in these children with a currency of hope. Money that is used efficiently is nothing short of priceless in its ability to affect change in both living standards and outlook for the future. I hope that this journey can hopefully inspire others to be the change they want to see in the world.
